Probably better cars out there in this segment. People seem to like them though.

Meow Richard

my personal opinion, these cars are amongst some of the ugliest cars out there, which is a shame as the 'normal' redo mini (I wont compare them to the real minis ;) ) are quite nice looking

A contrived car based solely on brand, and possibly one of the most ugly, misshapen cars on the road. They offend my eyes.

Also known as Personal Contract Purchase.

Some people moan about the fact you'll never own it unless you pay a lump sum at the end but then some people don't actually want to own a car, just have the use of one they don't need to worry about.

I pay £75 per month for a brand new Kia Picanto on PCP - in 3 years time I'll hand it back and have had extremely cheap, worry free motoring for that time.

To hire a similar car from Hertz on their 28 day+ scheme would cost me ~£300 per month excluding insurance.

PCP can be very good or very bad, depending on your finances.

I see PCP more as hiring a car with a final payment if you wish to buy it, but you don't have to. It works well if you swap cars every 3 years, as you basically pay about the same as depreciation anyway, but you don't have the hassle of trading in/selling your car on after 3 years - you just give it back and find another car on PCP.

Conventional finance is more like a bank loan secured on the car. You pay a deposit, then regular payments until it's paid off - sometimes with a larger final payment. If you stop paying, they take the car away but it can affect your credit rating if you stop paying at any time. You have to pay for the whole car or take a hit on your credit rating, there's no get out of jail free card like with PCP. It usually works out cheaper overall, though, and you don't have to find a big final chunk.

If you just want to own the car at the end but don't have the money now, go for a normal finance deal. It's probably cheaper and while it has a larger deposit, you don't have to be planning finances for the final payment 3 years down the road. If you want to swap cars in 3 years, or don't have as much now, PCP will let you pay a smaller deposit and you can just keep paying until you've got the final payment and want to keep the car.

If you can definitely afford the final payment or to carry on paying after 3 years, PCP is a good bet. If you might not be able to do either, avoid PCP like the plague as you end up carless. If you can't guarantee payments within the 3 years, don't touch either.
